Organic Plants
With the advance of biotechnology and capitalism, our body, which is treated as a sacred thing, could be expendable — thus blurring the boundaries between humans and other species.
To illustrate this, I designed plants that grow human organs.
Humans have been exploiting animals. However, we do the same thing to plants but without any concerns. So, in the context of blurring the boundaries and making human body banal, it is more fitting to put humans and plants together.
Process
Final Visualization
As a final product, I created a series of botanical painting posters and packets for their seeds. Drawing upon the researches about growing organs and plant-based organs, I illustrating the plant vessel as a blood vessel. Also, I chose the heart and brain since they are the most complicated organs that are hard to just 3D print. The seed packet has an instruction on the back, saying it needs a drop of your blood a day to grow, and it takes 1month. Those are also cited from the research since we need to use our own cell to grow our organs, and as it was in 2018, the successfully grown organ took one month. Both of those products are to imply a future perspective and acceptance. They explain the commodification of the human body, as well as a product that is imaginable and medically useful in the future.
