Challenging The Preconceptions About Fat
This project’s aim is to shift the negative preconception people have on fat using visual language. Through visual experimentations, I tried to translate the initial impression to something else by deconstructing and reconstructing the forms. In the end, I made a physical object that are inviting and beautiful, using the visual language I translated from fat.
Visual Experimentations
to shift the perspective of unflattering pats of the body, I took several pictures of body parts that read as “fat“. By enlarging, cropping, and turning them in gray scale, the pictures lost its initial flesh like impression. I continued on my experimentation to deconstruct the pictures and in the end, extracted some shapes.
Final Visualization
The final visualization of this project has 3 parts. 1. posters, 2. animation, and 3. physical object. 1 and 2 mainly express the process and the manifesto of the transformation of the visual language. the physical object is made out of sponges. The shapes are the shapes extracted from the pictures of fat. However, there is no negative preconception to this object. It’s soft and inviting to touch. you can lay on it or wear it as a protective layer. They are beautiful and encouraging.
